Oklahoma ranks 48th in spending for K-12 schools, according to a 2021 report by EducationData.org. The spending is equivalent to about 3% of taxpayer income.
K-12 schools spend $8,129 per pupil in Oklahoma. Only Idaho and Utah spend less. New York led the way with $23,321 in K-12 spending. Neighboring Colorado spent $10,224 per student. Arkansas spent $10,184. Louisiana spent $11,691.
Stitt’s administration has also been criticized for mishandling school spending and the passage of a new education funding formula that will further reduce funding for many rural school districts.
